Pick up Rubbish Day

October12

Our uncle JD organised a Beach Clean up (aka Pick up Rubbish Day) with a National Environmental Agency dude at East Coast Park. Of course all of us decided to go do our part for the environment as it meant being able to wear casual clothes, charge 4 full hours and a BBQ dinner! Armed with plastic bags, caps and hats, sunblock and sunnies, we trooped to ECP for an afternoon at the beach.

The NEA guy gave a short talk about well, stuff. He explained how difficult the public has been with the ‘Bring Your Own Bag’ campaign at supermarkets (typical Singaporeans) but how essential it is for us to have plastic bags (to throw our rubbish in the chutes). Then it was off for a hour to pick up all the bits on the sand.

Items found:
+Condom wrapper (no condom in sight though)
+ Light bulb
+ Mouldy pacifier
+Broken flower pot
+ Lots and lots of tiny styrofoam bits that have disintergrated from styrofoam boxes

Then off to the BBQ, where we waited and waited and waited for the food. Seow’s husband brought Chloe (aka Shitty) to come and parade. She was an attention magnet and very good natured about it. A pageant queen indeed. Wang and I rode the tandem bike where we were both too short for the front seat (thanks Uncle JD!) so being less gung ho I was at the back balancing and laughing my head off.
