I want to break free
I watched We will Rock you last Sunday. It was a Queen bonaza without Freddy Mercury and the rest. But it was still pretty good and toe tapping like all Queen songs are. I loved the songs though I felt that some songs were just dumped in for good measure because they were the more popular Queen songs (like Crazy Little Thing Called Love was totally out of place). They just had to put the songs together and it would be a great success, no matter how completely crap the story was. To be fair to them, the storyline was not that crappy but like all musicals, just simple enough and not mind blowingly thought provoking.
Mig Ayesa was Galilleo. He was like the only thing I remember about Rock Star INXS (which I incidentally Loved). But for him to pay a KID, and a whiny teenager in tight pants. (Rockers do wear tight pants as a default) Apart from the whiny weird accented speaking voice, he was Fabulous in his all black ensemble and skinny pants. Just love the rocker boys. Not exactly Freddie (of course they did not mean him to imitate Freddie, this is more of a tribute) but pretty much a singer in his own right.
But the Killer Queen was fantabulous! Not exactly what I always pictured in my head to be Killer Queen (this is a ‘rock’ show after all) but her voice was so powerful, it was truly remarkable. She is fierce and strong with lungs to match. The Sistic website called her New Zealand’s pop princess.
And I keep on humming ‘I want to break free’ in office, at home, when going along my usual business. It is like stuck in my head the way a lines from a good book does. I probably should watch “Across the Universe”. But then again. Usually I avoid anything to with the Fab Four because any movie without them inside is not a Fab Four tribute. But with Queen, it is different. They are just in different leagues and I love them both!
