Lip smackers
I really should just jot down something about Hongkong, it is almost going to be a month since I was there. But somehow, it is difficult to just vomit out paragraphs about a trip. I guess because vacations are an overwhelming blend of days and nights sightseeing and walking.
Hongkong is really a great place. I only been there once when I was four, en route to Canada so of course I remember squat about it. I love how cosmopolitan (spelling) it is. I am a city mouse. The buildings, the shops that do not close until 1030 on weekday nights. The food that caters to my western preferences. The very very fast MTR. The lots of walking done by people who live there, hence their choice of sensible shoes which I am quite impressed by.

We spent the days walking around and for me, trying not to buy too many things. I love to walk. Especially amongst roads, streets and buildings. (See: New York May 2004) Especially peeking into the window display of various shops (Prada, MISSONI, etc) and being too shy to go in. (I really should, so I can start saving up). I always thought that there were too many people in Singapore. But there are alot of people in Hongkong too. But perhaps maybe it was a holiday and the weather was magical, the crowds did not piss me off that much over there. No sweat really agrees with me.
I always watched those cantonese drama serials where the girls runs and runs and runs on this overhead bridge. But I had zero idea just how long these bridges could be and how there was one that was like oval/circle.
To hear cantonese on and on and around me was just beyond queer but it was really freeing to not be able to understand the next table’s conversation. That is what always happens to me when I am out, trying to eat and carry a decent conversation. I get so caught up with the surrounding conversations around me, I am an eavesdropping kaypoh that I cannot concentrate.
It rained at Disney Land. We sat on the special Disney MTR trains that brought us from Sunny Bay station to Disney Land. It started raining when we were queue-ing for Auto-pia and I had to run around the park with my umbrella the entire day. The Christmas decorations were up. Disney Land is really magical, no matter how big or small the park you go to is. Although the Mickey Mouse spoke Cantonese and there was one ugly Chinaman incident, but all in all, Disney Land and the themed shops were fun fun fun (as the Beach Boys would say).

We stayed at Pruton Prudential. There was a shopping arcade below the hotel, how handy. The Jordan MTR station was also just below the hotel. Proved to be very convenient. The view from our window was the opposite apartment blocks and I would look out at night trying to see inside of the opposite windows to catch a glimpse of real cramped Hongkong living. The people who lived on the top floors would dry their clothing on the rooftop.

The food was great. Krispy Kreme could be found near IFC. Western food galore. We ate piping hot egg tarts. Macau food was a blast. Sweet Dynasty for dimsum. McDonald’s for McPepper burgers.
