Can’t buy me love

November18

The Beatles once sang that money can’t buy you love. But it can definitely buy you momentary happiness. The Laney passed me my birthday present early. I have not opened the shrink wrap yet, I will wait till my birthday.

The Beatles Remastered in Mono Box Set! True original LP sound. But as the Beatles did not record Yellow Submarine and Abbey Road (the horror) in Mono so they are not in my Mono Box Set. This makes me sad. Heh. I will have to have the Stereo Box Set too then.

Love that they put my two favourite Beatles in front and my least favourite behind.

Don’t Cry Joni

September4

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I was sitting in my hall room. I always listened to Gold 90.5 on the radio with all the music that I have grown up with. I usually know most of the songs and almost all the words to those songs. I do not know how I remember all the words but I do. ‘Don’t Cry Joni’ came on the radio that day and he sang along. Wide eyed, I stared at him. No one I knew knew that song and definitely no one I knew knew the words. To add more blow to the damage, he knew the words ‘Strangers in the night, exchanging glances.’. Old Blue Eyes’ Strangers in the night. Of course I fell that night. ‘Lovers at first sight.’ Funny how songs always get to me and render me helpless. Only those songs from a long time ago.

Don’t Cry Joni
(Conway Twitty)

Woman- Jimmy please say you’ll wait for me
I’ll grow up someday you’ll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man – Joni was the girl who lived next door
I’ve known her I guess ten years or more.
Joni wrote me a note one day.
And this is what she had to say.

Woman-Jimmy please say you’ll wait for me
I’ll grow up someday you’ll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man- Slowly I read her note once more
Then I went over to the house next door
Her tear-drops fell like rain that day
When I told Joni what I had to say.

Man- Joni, Joni please don’t cry
You’ll forget me by and by
You’re just fifteen and I’m twenty two,
and Joni I just can’t wait for you.

Man – Soon I left our little home town,
Got me a job and tried to settle down
But these words kept haunting my memory,
the words that Joni said to me.

Woman- Jimmy please say you’ll wait for me
I’ll grow up some day you’ll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

Man – I packed my clothes and I caught a plane
and I had to see Joni. I had to explain,
how my heart was filled with her memory
and ask my Joni if she’d marry me

I ran all the way to the house next door
but things weren’t like they were before
My tear-drops fell like rain that day
When I heard what Joni had to say.

Woman- Jimmy, Jimmy please don’t cry
You’ll forget me by and by.
It’s been five years since you’ve been gone
Jimmy, I – (married) – your best friend John.

Landslide

August19

This is a good driving song. Why do people build their world around other people? In the end, they will have no control when their world comes crashing down.

(Stevie Nicks)

Took this love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
And can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Oh oh I don’t know, oh I don’t know

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older I’m getting older too
Yes I’m getting older too, so

I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I, I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I’m getting older too oh yes
I’m getting older too

So, take this love, take it down
Oh if you climb a mountain and you turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring you down, down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well maybe the landslide will bring you down
Well well, the landslide will bring you down

Funny Funny

July13

FUNNY FUNNY – Sweet

Tell me is it really true
This feelin’ that I feel for you
Your own kind of lovin’
That makes me think
Nothing could ever take the place of you

And it’s so funny funny
What you do, honey, honey
What you do, what you mean to me
And you know, honey, honey
Though it’s so funny funny
That you mean all the world to me

Ever since you came my way
I knew it was my lucky day
The sun started shinin’
When you started smiling
And I know it’s gonna stay that way

And it’s so funny funny
What you do, honey, honey
What you do, what you mean to me
And you know, honey, honey
Though it’s so funny funny
That you mean all the world to me

Can’t imagine lovin’ anyone but you
(Honey honey, so funny funny)
Every minute lovin’ everything you do
(Honey honey, so funny funny)
Couldn’t see my way without you
Now I gotta tell the world about you

Tell me is it really true
This feelin’ that I feel for you
Your own kind of lovin’
That makes me think
Nothing could ever take the place of you

And it’s so funny funny
What you do, honey, honey
What you do, what you mean to me
And you know, honey, honey
Though it’s so funny funny
That you mean all the world to me

This is currently the song playing on repeat on my iTunes. Upbeat songs that I sing along to cheer me up without fail. Late nights dancing and singing in my bedroom. That was my childhood. Not the late nights of course. But that is what I miss about being a child. Playing ‘Please Mr Postman’ on repeat. As long as the music is playing fast and loud, I am never alone.

Awful Excitement

March6

I am so excited that it’s Friday today!

I am so excited that I am a concert whore this month:-
1. Kumar at the Explanade on 20 March (with the work girls)
2. Duffy at Indoor Stadium on 22 March (with Jupes and Shue)
3. Coldplay at indoor Stadium on 23 March (with Missy Teo and Cherry Bomb)
I would have watched 3 concerts in the span of 4 days! Granted Kumar may not sing but he is a performance in his own right.

I am so excited that I may finally be going to Hawaii. If it happens, I will work every Saturday and Sunday and save every penny until my ass gets on that plane to Hawaii en route Narita.

You make me feel like dancing

April23

It was the Post 15 April party on Friday night at the Beach Hut at East Coast Park.

Sharonie and I hitched a ride with Uncle and arrived at ECP extra early. Therefore, we went around trying to find a KTV place but to no avail. Uncle just kept on pulling out a fresh cigarette every 3 minutes. He is a chain smoker. Sharonie and I rented a tandem bike and we rode, with her in the front as usual and me at the back because I do not move at all except pedal (or so she likes to think, teeheehehee.) When we switched and I went in front, let us just say it was a disaster.

The food was yummy yummy. Beef, Daphonaise (spelling) potatoes, whole little sotongs. There was free flow of booze but I stayed away because I do not need alcohol to feel high. No sir, all I need is good old music. And the band at the Beach Hut provided just that.

I danced because the band played all the music that I wish clubs would play. They played the Beatles ‘Can’t buy me love’ ‘I should have known better’, Elvis’ ‘All shook up’ ‘Return to Sender’, The Eagles, America. But when they started the beginning strains of the Hollies’ ‘Busstop’, I never been so happy. I could have danced, danced, danced all night long.

Herman’s Hermits

January29

When I am in the car and the radio plays something upbeat and cheery in the morning, I love to sing along. The soundtrack of your life. Have you ever thought about it? If you could sum up your life in 12 or 15 songs, what would they be? Yes Kimmy, I am thinking about you.

I’M INTO SOMETHING GOOD
(Gerry Goffin / Carole King)

Woke up this mornin’ feelin’ fine
There’s somethin’ special on my mind
Last night I met a new girl in the neighbourhood, whoa yeah
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )

She’s the kind of girl who’s not too shy
And I can tell I’m her kind of guy
She danced close to me like I hoped she would
(she danced with me like I hoped she would)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )

We only danced for a minute or two
But then she stuck close to me the whole night through
Can I be fallin’ in love
She’s everthing I’ve been dreamin’ of
She’s everthing I’ve been dreamin’ of

I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn’t be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’, ahhh)

I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn’t be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )
To something good, oh yeah, something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ )
To something good, something good, something good

Wind it up!

Kissing In The Back Row Of The Movies

July18

by Greenaway/Macauley

*Bring yourself back to the good old days that you never knew. Where you would wear penny loafers and poodle skirts. Drive in movies with the top down was where you could find all the couples on a Saturday night. Where like in the old Archie comics, a chocolate milkshake was shared by two. Where a girl waits next to the phone for a boy to call. Dresses are tailored made from a paper pattern.*

Your momma says that through the week
you can’t go out with me but when the weekend comes around
she knows where we will be
kissin’ in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
holding hands together you and I
holding hands together oh yeah
smooching in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
we could stay forever you and I
we could stay forever you and I
hugging and a kissin in the backrow of the movies
Every night I pick you up from school
’cause your my steady date
But from monday through to friday night
I leave you at the gate yeah
You know we can’t have to much fun
Till all your homeworks done
But when the weekend comes
She knows where we will be
kissin’ in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
holding hands together you and I
holding hands together oh yeah
smooching in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
we could stay forever you and I
we could stay forever you and I
ah ah hugging and a kissin in the backrow
of the movies
Sit alone at night and watch TV
But I still think of you
We share a joke or two yeah
You know they don’t knock on my door
After friday night for sure
cause when the weekend comes
they know just where I’ll be
yeah
kissin’ in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
holding hands together you and I
holding hands together oh yeah
smooching in the backrow
of the movies on a saturday night with you
we could stay forever you and I
we could stay forever you and I
ah ah hugging and a kissin in the backrow of the movies
yeah hugging and a kissin in the backrow of the movies

Do you know the way to San Jose?

July12

*Do you know who Burt Bacharach is? Do you know that he wrote all the fabulous songs? If you ask which fabulous songs, then you do not know who he is.*

Sung by the equally fabulous Dionne Warwick.

Do you know the way to San Jose?
I’ve been away so long. I may go wrong and lose my way.
Do you know the way to San Jose?
I’m going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose.
L.A. is a great big freeway.
Put a hundred down and buy a car.
In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star
Weeks turn into years. How quck they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas
Do you know the way to San Jose?
They’ve got a lot of sapce. There’ll be a place where I can stay
I was born and raised in San Jose
I’m going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose.
Fame and fortune is a magnet.
It can pull you far away from home
With a dream in your heart you’re never alone.
Dreams turn into dust and blow away
And there you are without a friend
You pack your car and ride away
I’ve got lots of friends in San Jose
Do you know the way to San Jose?
Can’t wait to get back to San Jose.
